Pro Peace Middle-East as a Newsletter is the international page of Africa Radio Programme web site. It will review international media activities in search of peace as solution to Middle-East conflict. This international "page" is our own way of sharing our perception of the Middle-East conflict with visitors to our web sites apart from questions arising from development and culture issues in Africa which centralise our preoccupations. You know it all too well. The opinion of Africa and of African people doesn’t matter. At best it is cited, when needed, to validate the so-called "French Cultural Exception" as a counter-point to the British-based Commonwealth or to tilt the balance of votes at the United Nations on issued generally considered as secondary to our interests. Everything else is of no consequence. If Africans’ views had been given the weight they deserve, the Israel-Palestine conflict would have become a memory long ago – albeit a painful one. General Murtala Muhammed is someone who well represented Africans’ views on the Middle East conflict. Interviewed in his time by the Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), Murtala Muhammed made this blunt comment: "The Jews and the Palestinians are cousins. If people could just stop meddling in their family quarrel, they [Jews and Palestinians] would see where their interest lies and the war would soon be over." Murtala Muhammed was assassinated few days after. Nobody knows who did it. Like General Murtala Muhammed, we believe that those who encourage this war, regardless of the side they are on, do not hold the key to a just resolution of the conflict. Worse, they are mortgaging Israel's future and sewing the seeds of hatred in the hearts of future generations of Palestinians. That is why we will be providing extensive coverage to the views expressed by media and individuals working for peace. In an upcoming Pro Peace Middle-East, you will be made familiar with the thinking of people like Nurit and Miko (children of the deceased Israeli General Matty PELED). You will receive pro-peace editorials published by the English, American, Australian, Canadian, Israeli and Palestinian press, as well as information about the struggle of individuals and organisations who are taking risks with single-mindedness in defending peace, democracy and truth. This notwithstanding, publishing Pro Peace Newsletter will be determined by the number of subscribers who will volunteer to read it.The news and releases we receive are up to 90% in English language. We shall endeavour to provide a short brief in French language Ibrahim Alabi ORIDOTA |
